We have to export more at any priceThe export trade is thousands of years old, but today, the majority of states are caught up in an export race. Everyone has to export more to pay their oil bills.Exports are necessary and useful but only to a reasonable extent. Many states have gone far beyond this reasonable extent, as after all, the foreign currency drain has to be counterbalanced. This dependency on oil is a typical feature of the achievement society: an unstable situation that is a driver for ever new export achievements.
Well, what do exports actually cost? If you are not under export stress, you can ask for a reasonable price. But there is this gigantic oil bill to be paid every year, the threat of a trade deficit is looming. More must be exported, at any cost, let the prices sink, to keep up with the competition from all the other countries that also have to pay their oil bills. Export world vice-champion Germany, the wage developments of the last 10 years, more than 2000 billion EUR state debt. Is this a success story or a drama? What will happen to Germany in the next oil crisis?
Only through the transition to renewable energy from the sun and the wind can this export stress be reduced. As things are we are in a deadly export race in the desperate effort to keep the balance of trade even after all those oil imports. |
